Proagroin | Purpose and Objectives | Organizational Chart of the Executive Direction | Organization Chart of Proagroin Foundation

The North Region Agro Industrial Development Program is financed by funds coming from the Debt Conversion Agreement between Costa Rica and Netherlands, from incomes generated by the commercialization of agricultural products and from sponsors’ donations.

These funds are administrated by a trust in the Interfin Bank as a fiduciary company. The administrative board evaluates the behaviors of the incomes, investments and expenditures, also, they evaluate the use and final destination of the resources; following the annual work planning and its respective budget previously approved by this board and carried out by the Executive Direction.

Those resources are used in credits to production, technical assistance, training, research and the company management strengthening for the farmers belonging to the Farmer’s Association (ASOPROAGROIN) from the Chorotega and North Huetar Regions.

In the year 2003, the Program became a foundation with the participation of the User’s Association of the North Region Agroindustrial Development Program (ASOPROAGROIN), the Ministry of Agriculture and Cattle Breeding, Guatusos’ local government, The School of Agriculture of the Humid Tropic (EARTH) and the Central American Bank of Economic Integration (BCIE).

For its administration, the Foundation has an organizational structure according to the different responsibilities: a board of directors, two regional credit committees: one for the North Huetar Region and the other for the Chorotega Region, the trustee, a technical banking committee and the Executive Direction.

Even though the Program started in citriculture, it has taken part in other projects like the cultivation of pineapple, roots and tubers. It also has the opportunity to participate with other kind of crops if the market and agricultural conditions allow it. In the last years, due to the conditions of the world market, the cultivation of pineapple (begun in 2002) is the most successful.

There is also a Quality Management Office in charge of the implementation and continuation of the quality control system in the production and manufacture processes of the products sold by the Foundation.
